CHECK OUT OUR LITTLE CATCH-UP WITH FOLEY BELOW:

.

1. Happy NZ Music Month! How did you initially get into creating music?
Gabe: We’ve both been doing music for many years, before Foley Ash and I were in separate bands in high school and we’ve both been playing even before that too. I’m lucky enough to have a musical mum who introduced me to a lot of my first music and has been super supportive with music my whole life 🙂

Ash: I’m the same- my family is full of music lovers who were always so encouraging of my music, even when it was absolutely eye wateringly bad.

2. Tell us about your inspirations & motivations?
Gabe: Surface level I’m a big Prince fan and anything funk related so that shines through a lot of our stuff, but inspiration can come from anywhere. Ash and I do almost everything creative together and will always go through idea after idea until we’re both happy.

Ash: Fleetwood Mac was the start of my musical enlightenment. Since then I basically consume anything and everything because you never know where inspiration is going to come from.

3. What have you been up to in this lockdown and how has it affected you?
Ash: It’s mostly been tricky not seeing friends and whanau when you want to – it’s so easy to underestimate the impact on your mood and mental health so we’ve both been really careful to do lots of self-care and check in with our mates as much as poss.

Gabe: We’re not in the same bubble unfortunately! So we’ve been writing over the internet and sending things back and forth. Obviously we can’t play shows or do most things we’d usually do after an EP release but we’re happily trucking along and getting things done

4. What do you think of the NZ music scene?
Gabe: It’s incredible, might be the best it’s ever been. There’s so many artists killing it on the world stage and that just inspires us to do better and be more ambitious.

Ash: I feel so unbelievably proud to be a Kiwi musician, and I think our country is embracing its own far more than it has in the past. Tall poppy seems to be totally subsiding in the industry, and instead everyone lifts each other up!

5. Goal board time – where would you like to see yourself in a year’s time?
Gabe: More music, bigger shows and reaching more fans 🙂

Ash: I think we will be stoked if we can just get outside and connect with people again. The music is going to keep coming whether were all locked in or not, so in a year hopefully we can finally tour all the music we’ve written in iso. Here’s hoping!!
