Welsh post-hardcore band Casey have returned to present their third studio album ‘How To Disappear’ via Greyscale Records/Hassle Records

Casey is Tom Weaver, Liam Torrance, Toby Evans, Adam Smith and Max Nicolai.

A lot of fans were still itching for more music when Casey announced the band disbanded in 2019 after releasing their EP Fade (2015) and two studio albums, Love Is Not Enough (2016) and Where I Go When I Am Sleeping (2018). On the 1st of December 2022 the band announced they were back, playing shows again and presenting two new singles Great Grief & Atone. Now in 2024 they are ready to show their third studio album to the old and new fans.

Casey comments “How to Disappear seeks to unravel the enduring impact we leave on our loved ones after our time has come to an end. This record explores the enigmatic intersection of existence and grief across the course of 12 songs. This album is our most ambitious project to date, and we hope you’ll accept our invitation to be a part of it.”

Unique Lights and I Was Happy When You Died welcomes us with the similar atmospheric elements used in their previous album Where I Go When I Am Sleeping. With this album the band brought more attention to this sound through songs like Selah, Space Between and Blush which showcase how much they have matured with this sound. It brought back memories of listening to songs from their previous albums like Flowers by the Bed and Doubt for the first time. These songs are the ones you could really dive into the lyrics that pull at your heartstrings and Casey has done that again with these new songs.

Not to worry though as the band’s melodic hardcore roots are still very much present throughout this album. Songs like Sanctimonious, Bite Through My Tongue, Those That I’m Survived By and Puncture Wounds To Heaven still showcases vocalist Tom Weaver and his emotional screams that accompany the lyrics perfectly. Discovering this band back in the day through Tom’s vocal audition for Northlane and songs like Fade and Hell from their 2015 EP was how I grew to enjoy Tom’s screams and to hear them on these new songs is pleasing to hear.

Guitarists Liam Torrance and Toby Evans showcase the way they can set the tone of each track from ambient lead lines to aggressive power chords to take us on this rollercoaster of emotion that How To Disappear takes us on.

It can be a lot of pressure for a band reforming and releasing a new album when their fans still adore their previous work. Casey have shown with this album that they have grown up and matured during their time apart as a band but still have the ability to draw in and connect with the listener as they tell a story that some may connect with. Casey have produced a great studio album to mark their return and they definitely aren’t slowing down anytime soon.

Casey are touring Australia supporting Dayseeker in July alongside Landon Tewers and Inertia. Grab your tickets to hear songs from How To Disappear live.
