Nostalgia shows are all the rage at the moment it seems. But I have to admit, when I saw this announcement, I knew I had to go. Only 3/5 members and obviously it has been years since we all blasted their music but personally I don’t care. If you did Jump Jam, you’ll understand. Regardless this won’t be biased but I am a fan.

First I was surprised this show sold out. Oh the power of us all reliving our glory days with boybands at their peak. But I was so happy for them. The crowd flowed in pretty early, already full with about 100 early VIPs, then everyone else following suit. It started slow but picked up as time got closer.

The wait wasn’t too bad as DJ LEVINS kept everyone entertained. Now I am not a big fan of DJs pre-show necessarily, but I have to say – he understood the assignment! He played us classic like Backstreet Boys, Atomic Kitten, Eminem and more. The sing-a-longs from the crowd were iconic! The crowd ranged from my age (30’s) plus. And some felt like it was their first night out in a while or a night out without the kids. But it was great to see. And yes there were men in the crowd, some where definitely dragged along but some were also living their best lives.

Now let me tell you about FIVE. There was no theatrics, no screens, banner etc. It felt like it needed something like that as it just felt more like a soundcheck vibe in my opinion. But other than that it was a lot better than I expected I have to say. With these “nostalgia”-type shows, I always seem to expect backing track. Because it is a lot of the time as these artists aren’t in their prime and it’s understandable. But nope these guys were all vocals with the odd bit of backing track in the gang vocals.

I have to give it up to Scott for powering through. He seemed to have a cough or something he couldn’t shake but other than having to pop away for fluids a bit, it didn’t fault his performance or vocals. Also I don’t know how it came up but the discussion of mayo came up where Scott said it’s disgusting and ketchup is better. I have to agree. Though tomato sauce not that weird ketchup.

THERE WERE SYNCHRONISED DANCE MOVES TOO! And yes a few members of the crowd even busted out the Jump Jam moves. The crowd sang-a-long so loudly. Honestly I personally felt like we were all having the moment we wanted years ago.

So while the show is not a whole production, I found it was still a great show and really satisfied my need to see them live. So that was FIVE, I’ve seen BLUE, who’s next? NSYNC?
