Last night was the first Rolling Stone Awards in Aotearoa. It was an intimate evening with only a small guest list of people invited and though the night felt like it was over in 5 minutes, I am sure it is a taster for what is to come with Rolling Stone and the New Zealand Music Industry.

I can’t think of the last time a lot of different people in the music industry gathered in one place as we’ve had voice restrictions for most of the other events like this. This was apparent with how loud everyone was in the crowd. Clearly a lot to catch up on. Even while I was shooting I had to quickly stop and say hi, catch up while shooting etc.

The red carpet was a brief moment of quick chats and photos before actually heading into the venue. Here are some photos from the carpet:

Thought the night felt short, there were a few performances and a few awards given out. The awards are Rolling Stone rings and they looked so cool – How do I get one? Is there a photography award? ANYWAY…

The awards and winners were:
GLOBAL AWARD: Lorde
She was not in attendance as she is touring. It was accepted by Jayden.
BEST NEW ARTIST: Teeks
Teeks gratefully accepted the award but also acknowledged the others and said it felt strange as he doesn’t see himself as new anymore.

BEST SINGLE: Six60 – Pepeha
The band accepted the award following their performance of the same waiata.

BEST RECORD: L.A.B – V
L.A.B were not in attendance but the award was accepted by Label Manager Dan Clist.

There were a few performances: Six60, Rob Ruha & Ka Hao and Stan Walker. I personally think Rob Ruha stole the night for performances. Their energy was so infectious and it travelled through the venue as strongly as the reo they sang.

The night wrapped with a surfboard spot prize awarded to Angel Guan. Everyone was then left to mingle and catch up for the rest of the night. A good night out and I am sure it is only a tester of what is com
