Another rainy night in Auckland, headed to The Powerstation. People were slowly trickling in as I arrived. I didn’t know what sort of crowd to expect both in regards to the types of people and also just size of the crowd. Considering Tierra opens for Tyler, The Creator tomorrow at Spark Arena.
As SWIDT took the stage the venue was only about ¼ to 1/3 full. I realised this crowd probably weren’t too familiar with them and it probably wouldn’t be the same as one of their own shows. As they kicked into their set I noticed some of the crowd knew who they were, which was great to see. But I was right in that it didn’t have the same energy as when they do their own shows. But that could have been due to the small crowd as well. In saying that though, they still delivered their bars, bounced around and vibes where they could. Though I don’t think I could get past the amount of timers Boomer kept talking about putting things up his/your butt haha. Even the other guys couldn’t keep a straight face when it kept coming up. Regardless it was still good to see the guys on the stage again.

The wait between sets was long. Even the crowd just kept shouting out for “Tierra Whack!”. Her DJ – KILLSING – kicked off the night by preparing the crowd. First she got them hyped up but then a mix of bangers to get their singing voices ready. And when I say mix I MEAN MIX. It featured tracks from Panic! At The Disco, Abba, Kendrick, Miles and Vanessa Carlton. It was a good time!
.
Eventually she made the announcement to make noise and Tierra Whack came bounding on to the stage. She got intimate with the crowd straight away, stepping as close to the side of stage and eventually stepping on to the barrier. Little did I know, this would not be the extent of crowd interaction. At one point in her set she dove into the crowd and crowd surfers a bit. There was a near-drop moment but they saved her. Then she jumped into the crowd at one point and just walked through the crowd rapping. The crowd kept it tame in that they were hype with her but it didn’t seem like she was in danger. Her team and security eventually joined the mix to ensure it didn’t get to that point.
Tierra Whack has the best energy. Like she was just having the best time and was engaging with the crowd so much, especially those in the front row. She pulled a guy out of the front row to rap a track with her. You couldn’t hear him but he still went for it regardless.
Oh and I forgot to mention the amazing outfit and makeup she had. It was a long black coat with pink bold flowers with what looked to be a matching set underneath. Then her makeup was pink eyeliner that went down to a flower on her cheekbone area. A simple, bold and well-done look for sure!
The end of her set through me a bit as the track she was ending felt like it ended short then everyone vacated the stage. But music was still blasting. It took a while for everyone to realise it was definitely the end.

Not too long after show end Tierra Whack actually came out into the crowd and took time to get photos with everyone. I went to say hi and she is really lovely and just feels like a good person to vibe with and be around. Definitely the way you want to do A Thursday night for sure.
